KITTY CUCUMBER “ROASTING CHESTNUTS” PORCELAIN FIGURINE.  The Kitty Cucumber Collection evolved from a favorite cat that artist Mary Lillemoe had as a child- a cat born, of all places, in a cucumber patch.  Many years later, upon first seeing Mary's whimsical sketches of her now famous childhood pet, Mary's 5-year-old daughter Annie proudly announced, "That's Kitty Cucumber!"  And with that out- of- the mouths-of babes exclamation, a collection was born.  Schmid was an international leader in fine gifts and collectibles, and transformed Kitty and her friends into finely handcrafted, hand painted collectibles.  This figurine for auction “Roasting Chestnuts” depicts the holiday activity which celebrates Winter in trademark Kitty style.  Both Ellie and Muffin- Kitty Cucumber’s friend and cousin respectively-are sitting on a log by the blazing campfire in old-world style.  Ellie is the black and white cat - the demure peacemaker of the group.  She is dressed in Victorian-style clothing and she is quite sheik.  She has a blue coat with a big bow and gold tone bottom.  She has a nifty hat, also with a blue bow.  She is cuddling a brown teddy bear.  Muffin is Kitty Cucumber’s young very sweet cousin.  She is dressed all in green with a very attractive Winter hat with a red bow.  She is warming herself with the campfire flame.  This is an iconic Winter scene.  The figurine measures 3-1/2 h x 3-1/2” wide.  Underneath the figurine it has the Kitty Cucumber trademark with © 1992, B.
